Rain Ruins game
Chearsley v Horspath 3
Chearsley played host to Horspath 3 on Saturday in what was to be a rain-interrupted game. Captain James Veness won the toss and inserted the visitors. Until the rain interruption after 30 odd overs Horspath were only 130, but on the resumption with only 7 overs of the reduced 39 to go Graham Beer went to town scoring a rapid 65. Thus the total of 201 for 7 was a challenging one. Akeen Fox made 45 and James Earnshaw 38 for Horspath, with Nick Grimsdell taking 2 for 70.
The host needed to get off to a good start, but lost last week's hero Veness for just 4. Tom Whitelaw (67) and Marc Hignell (50) steadied the ship with a second wicket stand of 108, but against some tight bowling the target was never threatened in the available 35 overs. They finished on 130 for 5 and need to win next week's penultimate game at Bledlow Ridge to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.
